The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation
In 1951, five year old Robbie Page, son of Tri Sigma's fourth National President, Mary Hastings Holloway Page, died of bulbar polio. In his honor members of Tri Sigma took it upon themselves to establish the "Robbie Page Memorial" which supported Polio research. When a cure for polio was found, Tri Sigma turned her attention to funding a new form of therapy called "therapeutic play". Therapeutic play or "play therapy" helps children better cope with medical treatments as well as understand the outcomes associated with their illnesses. This form of therapy also helps children decrease stress and anxiety. With the help of RPM grants, children staying long term in hospitals are able to utilize therapeutic play to better develop physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially despite their illnesses.
Tri Sigma has also funded the construction of a "Play Atrium" at North Carolina Children's Hospital.
